In less than two weeks, December will end. It’s not only going to mean a new month but actually a new year. Pokémon GO has officially revealed what’s in store for everyone in January 2021. Today, we take a look into what Trainers can expect.
Let’s start with the Research Breakthrough encounter, which starts on January 1 and lasts until February 1. In this one, Trainers can encounter Chansey.
Like in previous months, there’s still going to be the Pokémon Spotlight Hours. It will take place each Tuesday of the month at 6:00 PM, local time. For each Spotlight Hour, there will be a different Pokémon and a special bonus. Here are the full details:
- January 5
- Pokémon in the Spotlight: Lillipup
- Bonus: Earn twice the Stardust for catching Pokémon.
- January 12
- Pokémon in the Spotlight: Drifloon
- Bonus: Earn twice the XP for catching Pokémon.
- January 19
- Pokémon in the Spotlight: Shroomish
- Bonus: Earn twice the Candy for catching Pokémon.
- January 26
- Pokémon in the Spotlight: Phanpy
- Bonus: Earn twice the Candy for transferring Pokémon.
Prepare for the Raids
For January, Legendary and Mythical Pokémon are going to appear in Five-Star Raids. Here are the different Pokémon and when they'll appear in raids:
- Pokémon: Ho-Oh
- Dates: January 1 to January 5
- Other Details: Get the chance to encounter a Shiny Ho-Oh.
- Pokémon: Genesect holding a Burn Drive
- Dates: January 5 to January 12
- Pokémon: Heatran
- Dates: January 12 to January 19
- Other Details: Get the chance to encounter a Shiny Heatran.
- Pokémon: Kyogre and Groudon
- Dates: January 19 to January 26
- Other Details: Get a chance to encounter a Shiny Kyogre or Shiny Groudon.
By the way, there’s also a surprise Pokémon set to appear in raids starting January 26.
Moving on to the Mega Raids, Trainers can prepare to meet Mega Charizard Y, Mega Blastoise, and Mega Abomasnow, from January 5 to January 12. During this time, Mega Charizard Y is going to become even more powerful. Mega Blastoise, meanwhile, is a prime pick when it comes to five-star raids for January. So, be sure to stock up on Blastoise Mega Energy.
Starting January 19 to February 8, prepare to meet Mega Venusaur and Mega Houndoom in Mega Raids. Mega Houndoom is set to become even more powerful during this period.
On January 19 as well, there’s a Mega-Evolved Pokémon debuting in Mega raids. More details about this are set to be announced closer to the release date.
