Even before 2022 ended, we already knew that there were cool events scheduled this January 2023 in Pokémon GO. But there's another reason to be happy with the upcoming Twinkling Fantasy event from January 10 to January 16. This event sees the debut of Mega Salamence in Mega Raids.
Before we look into what trainers can do during this event, let’s check out the event bonuses. In this event, trainers can get these for catching Pokémon with Nice Throws, Great Throws, and Excellent Throws:
- 2× XP
- Additional Candy
- Increased chance for Trainers level 31 and up to get Candy XL

In addition to what's been mentioned, there's also the event-themed Collection Challenge. Trainers able to finish the Twinkling Fantasy Collection Challenge get:
- 50 Salamence Mega Energy
- Charged TM
- Fast TM
By the way, don't forget to take a snapshot during the event. Those who do may get a surprise encounter with a Dragon-type or Fairy-type Pokémon.
Community Days
Before the Twinkling Fantasy event starts, trainers can join the Community Day for January 2023 on January 7 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., local time. It’s going to feature the Spiny Nut Pokémon Chespin. During the event, players able to evolve Quilladin can get a Chesnaught that knows the Charged Attack Frenzy Plant. Learn more about this event.
After the Twinkling Fantasy event, trainers can proceed to the January 2023 Community Day Classic on January 21 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. It's going to feature Lavitar who appears more frequently in the wild. The event bonuses here includes:
- 3× XP for catching Pokémon
- Lure Modules activated during the event last for three hours
- Incense activated during the event lasts for three hours
- Does not include Daily Adventure Incense
- Take a few snapshots during Community Day Classic for a surprise
