Pokémon Sun and Moon received a second trailer on June 2 and it revealed a whole bunch of new information on some of the new Pokémon and the new Alola Region.
With every new trailer there’s a ton of hidden little features and nods to upcoming content, and we compiled five more facts about Sun and Moon that you may have missed.
So let’s get started, beginning with the most obvious fact.
ALOLA REGION ISLANDS
The Alola Region was revealed to be based on Hawaii in the last trailer. Since then, an Amazon listing for Sun and Moon described the region as having multiple islands to travel between.
So a region based on Hawaii, a state comprised of many islands, will have islands to travel between? Color me shocked when this piece of news came out; an overhead shot of the Alola region from the June 2 trailer confirms the “multiple island” rumor for those who didn’t see this coming.
According to the official Pokémon website, the Alola Region will have four islands (one being an artificial island.)
LEGENDARY TYPINGS, NAMES AND ABILITIES
At the end of the May 10 trailer, the box legendary Pokémon were revealed. Some quick shots of the giant lion and bat who will grace the covers of Sun and Moon respectively were shown, but no other information was given until this new trailer.
We find out that the lion is named Solgaleo and the bat is named Lunala, the same as the leaked trademarks from weeks ago.
But other than the names, we learned both Pokémon’s typings, their signature attacks and their new abilities.
Solgaleo is a Psychic/Steel type with the ability Full Metal Body. This ability doesn’t allow for Solgaleo’s stats to be lowered. This is similar to the Clear Body ability, and hopefully this will give Solgaleo some immunity to Fire-type attacks, because it would be kind of silly if the “Sun” Pokémon could be hurt by fire.
Sunsteel Strike is Solgaleo’s signature attack. Judging from the trailer, it is a physical attack and while it could be either Steel or Psychic-type attack (to give Solgaleo some powerful STAB), it is most likely a Steel-type attack. It also ignores the opponent’s ability.
Lunala is a Psychic/Ghost-type Pokémon with the ability Shadow Shield. When at full health, Lunala takes less damage from attacks, which is similar to Multiscale.
Moongeist Beam is Lunala’s signature attack and the trailer showed Moongeist Beam being super effective against a Gengar, which could mean it is a Psychic or Ghost-type attack, but we’ll go out on a limb and say it’s a Ghost-type attack and a special move. It also ignores the opposing Pokemon’s ability.
RIVALS AND PROFESSOR
On every Pokémon journey, trainers have a professor who shows them the ropes of the region. The identity of the professor of the Alola Region has been hinted at in past trailers, and we now have confirmation.
Professor Kukui is this region’s professor and is fascinated by Pokémon moves. He’s so passionate about his research that he will take attacks head-on to see if he can learn something from them.
The Alola Region will also have rivals for your character to travel with. Lillie is Kukui’s assistant and doesn’t like Pokémon battles. She helps the professor for her own personal reasons and will play an important role in Sun and Moon.
Then we have Hau. Hau is the same age as your character and has a big appetite. Like many rivals in the recent Pokémon games, Hau will be a big-hearted, fun-loving trainer.
QR SCANNER HELPS CATCH POKEMON
In Sun and Moon, there is a QR Scanner function that lets players get information about Pokémon from scanning QR codes.
According to the Pokémon website , there are QR Codes in various places and trainers should try scanning them.
When you catch a Pokémon in Sun and Moon, they will come with a QR Code you can share with friends, so they can find where to catch them in their own game when it’s registered into your Rotom Pokedex.
ROTOM POKEDEX
And speaking of Rotom Pokedex, Rotom will possess your own Pokedex in Sun and Moon , giving it more features than ever before.
According to the Pokémon website , the Rotom Pokedex will show you your current location, where you are headed to next and gives you advice on where to go based on conversations you have with others.
This sounds a lot like a device that keeps quests for you. Perhaps we will get some sidequests happening in Sun and Moon .
If you noticed from the short clip, the Rotom Pokedex will have more than one Pokedex as Serebii’s translator points out.
