Prison Break Season 5 is expected to release on Fox sometime early in 2017. Ever since the trailer for the new season dropped in August, there’s been radio silence from the Prison Break cast and series stars Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell, who are usually active on Instagram and Twitter. The two actors are also signed on for CW’s Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash and Arrow , which are all approaching the mid-season mark.
With a lack of information about the Prison Break revival, the rumor mill is going wild. There have been various false reports claiming the deaths of Lincoln, Michael and Sara, none of which has been confirmed by the creative team. All we really know is Lincoln discovers Michael is alive in a Yemeni prison. Of course, he has to break his brother out. T-Bag, Sucre and C-Note return to help. However, unlike previous seasons, the harder part will be breaking out of Yemen since Michael got caught up with ISIS and the group’s plan to take down the government.
Here's everything we know about the upcoming season, and a few predictions too.
How Michael Survived
There’s got to be more to the story than Michael just surviving a brain tumor and electrocution. What we don’t know is if Michael has been in prison this whole time, or if he got out of prison, then sent back in somehow.
Deadline's Nellie Andreeva reported back in March that she heard from creator Paul Scheuring that Michael faked his death. “Fernando, C-Note, Lincoln, and Sara go on a mission to rescue Michael from Yemen where he is imprisoned after faking his death,” the report reads.
T-Bag Turns Bad
This is more of a prediction, but the trailer confirms T-Bag was the one who told Lincoln that Michael is still alive. It’s a bit suspicious that T-Bag is the first to figure out Michael is alive, especially if Michael really did fake his own death because of ISIS. While T-Bag was an ally at certain points in the past, he’s proved time and time again he can never be fully trusted. He may be a friend at first in Season 5, but he’s easily persuaded to evil agendas especially when they benefit him.
Lincoln Gets Hurt
Four storyboards tease a big car chase scene. The hand-written descriptions reveal Lincoln gets into a accident with an 18-wheeler truck. Lincoln’s vehicle goes through the guardrail, which sends him flying through the windshield and into a body of water.
The Escape
Dominic Purcell has suggested it’s not necessarily the prison escape that will be the hardest, but rather, getting out of Yemen. A scene shared at San Diego Comic-Con shows Michael planning his break out. He befriends a fellow detainee, who is scared inmates being released from solitary will kill him because he is gay, and bargains for a piece of gum that will somehow help him jump start the escape. Michael says in the scene, “This piece of gum is going to start a sequence of events that will finish on the other side of the world.”
New Cast
Sara has a new man in her life, played by Mark Feuerstein of Royal Pains. His name is Jacob, and he’s the new father figure for Michael and Sara’s young child, little Mike (played by Christian Michael Cooper.) We have to wonder if this new husband will advise Sara to stay out of it, or help her find her long-lost lover. Either way, we all know there will still be some feelings to flesh out between Sara and Michael.
Kunal Sharma ( The Kids Are Alright ) will play Sid, the inmate Michael befriends in the trailer. “ He’s artsy, wired – and in prison. His offense, despite what his docket says, is solely being gay,” according to Deadline. Inbar Lavi ( The Last Ship ) plays the role of Sheba, “ a beautiful and smart operator/fixer/activist who becomes involved with Lincoln.” Marina Benedict ( Torchwood ) plays a character reportedly named A&W, “a crazed villainess who is unconcerned about her physical well-being but efficient in completing her deadly goals.”
Rick Yune ( Marco Polo ) will also join the cast as Ja, “a Korean identity thief whose disheveled appearance belies his genius.” Australian actor Steve Mouzakis ( I, Frankenstein ) will play Van Gogh, “a bad-ass nut-job,” according to Deadline. Amin El Gamal ( Newsroom ) will play a “heavily recurring role” as a mystery character named Cyclops.Augustus Prew ( Klondike ) plays Whip, who is “funny, crazy, lethal, and pretty damn sharp.”
Michael Has New Tattoos
Fans spotted new tattoos on Michael's body in an earlier Season 5 trailer. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Wentworth Miller said they are “less of a blueprint. They serve a very specific purpose.”
ISIS Involvement
C-Note, who the writers revealed has converted to Islam, tells Lincoln in the trailer, “They have him in here working for ISIL, trying to take down the government.” Dominic Purcell also told fans “he’s been part of some deep, dark, government funded plots and that’s left a mark on him.”
Executive Producer Paul Scheuring said anyone who knows Michael is alive is in trouble too. “If people start finding out that Michael is still alive, then it puts their larger secret agenda at risk,” Scheuring informed EW. “They’ll kill anybody that finds out.” He also said the creative team is committed to portraying Islam in a positive light.
