The EU Six Invitational Qualifiers match between NaVi and MKERS just concluded. The match was played in a best of three series.
The first map of the series was on Coastline. Coastline is a frag-heavy map that usually goes either way. Though, the team that frags better often wins the map. MKERS, after the roster changes, made it a very frag heavy team. NaVi didn’t seem warmed up, which MKERS took advantage of and won the first map with a 7-4 scoreline. Gemini and Scatto played extremely well for MKERS as they topped the leaderboards with 14 and 12 kills, respectively.
You would think a team like NaVi that competed in the highest level of tournaments and played pro league could do better in a strategy-heavy map like Kafe Dostoyevsky. This would be true in some cases. Yet NaVi had no information/VODS going into the game against MKERS. Meanwhile, MKERS had tons of public VODS to figure out how NaVi plays as a team.
NaVi did pretty decent on the attack and went 3-3 on the first half. MKERS relied on several clashes and tried using strategies that would catch NaVi off-guard. It did work to a certain extent, but NaVi has more experience in clearing various types of strategies.
Saves from NaVi almost clutch a 1v4 situation by pre-firing his opponents. However, when it came to the final kill, Saves didn’t expect the last player of MKERS hiding under Skylight, which allowed MKERS to win the seventh round. The match went all the way to the overtime match point that surprised everyone. MKERS took the final map with an 8-7 scoreline. This makes them the first non-pro league team to reach the semi-finals.
