Entertainment Weekly has a major new cover story on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and among their first key reveals ( beside confirming the oft-rumored appearance of Darth Vader) are full profiles of many of the Rogue One cast of characters. This includes finally giving the mysterious villain, played by Ben Mendelsohn, a name: Director Orson Krennic.
Presumably, Orson Krennic’s title indicates his control over the Death Star project. Here’s EW’s full description of the baddie:
“On the opposing side, this villain is an ambitious Imperial apparatchik who intends to use his squad of Deathtroopers to pulverize the Rebel uprising and ascend into the Emperor’s graces – while hopefully avoiding the wrath of his enforcer, Darth Vader. ‘The bad guy is a lot more terrifying when he’s really smart, and really effective,’ says Knoll. ‘There is a lot of palace intrigue going on in the Empire, with people conspiring to move up the ranks and sabotaging each other. There’s not a lot of loyalty there.’”
That sounds pretty great! Not only will Rogue One: A Star Wars Story focus on the Rebel Alliance vs. the Empire, but it will also tell a story about ambition and infighting within the Imperial bureaucracy.
About time Darth Vader had someone new to butt heads with; he’s been missing a great verbal sparring partner since Grand Moff Tarkin blew up in the Death Star Director Orson Krennic is busy building.
