Actor Sacha Dhawan has reportedly joined the cast of Sherlock for the show’s fourth season to play a character named AJ. Radio Times reports an online copy of Dhawan’s CV from Troika Talent listed the role, but it has since been removed. While there is no confirmation from Dhawan’s representatives or the BBC, a screenshot of the digital CV exists. Adding fuel to fire is the fact that Dhawan has previously worked with Sherlock co-creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss.
Last month, actor Toby Jones was cast to play a mystery villain in the series and will reportedly appear in Season 4 episode 2, directed by Nick Hurran. Jones was most recently seen portraying a scientist on FOX’s Wayward Pines .
"We're thrilled to welcome one of our finest actors to the Sherlock family," said co-creator Mark Gatiss, who also plays Mycroft Holmes. "I know Toby will embrace the part with true relish!" Co-creator Steven Moffat added: "Delighted to have Toby Jones on board, bringing to life one of Doyle’s finest villains.”
Jones and Dhawan will be joining returning cast members Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, alongside Amanda Abbington, Una Stubbs, Rupert Graves, Jonathan Aris and Louise Brealey.
Little has been revealed about Season 4, but Gatiss and Moffat issued a press release about the new season in April. “ Sherlock [Season] four—here we go again!” they said. “Whatever else we do, wherever we all go, all roads lead back to Baker Street—and it always feels like coming home. Ghosts of the past are rising in the lives of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson bringing adventure, romance and terror in their wake.”
