The Splatoon 2 Nintendo Direct unveiled even more information on the upcoming sequel to the popular Wii U title, including new gear, weapons and the new modes coming this month.
Customization is a big part of Splatoon 2 , and players can change eye and skin color, hair styles and more. There’s also a ton of new gear in Splatoon 2 that goes beyond aesthetic options, with each piece of gear having special abilities. Gear that may have been in the first Splatoon will be updated with new abilities.
Murch will be able to change up abilities on certain gear, and there are a lot of abilities in Splatoon 2, so go out there and figure out the right combination for you.
Hats and glasses will be sold by Flow in one store, Jelfonzo will sell shirts and Bisk sells shoes. Sheldon has different weapon designs available to purchase.
There are three types of weapons in Splatoon 2: main, sub and special. There are many different types of main weapons, from long- to short-range. Some new weapons introduced in Splatoon 2 include the Clash Blaster, Flingza Roller, Goo Tuber and the Dapple Dualies.
Sub weapons will help players with other abilities, such as defending from attacks or revealing enemy positions. The new Autobomb, for example, will find an enemy and automatically follow them, while Toxic Mist fills the surrounding area with a poisonous mist, reducing the ink of opponents who dare step in its range, as well as making them move more slowly.
Special weapons in Splatoon 2 are all new. By taking out enemies, your special meter will fill up so you can unleash some devastating attacks that can turn the tide of battle. Some of the weapons making their debut are the Tenta Missiles, the Inkjet, the Sting Ray and the Baller, which lets players roll up walls in an explosive hamster ball.
Salmon Run gives new gear that can only be won in this mode so it’s worth the try. This new local- and online-multiplayer mode to Splatoon 2 finds up to four players working together to defeat bosses and collect Power Eggs in a limited amount of time. Each match in Salmon Run lasts for three waves, with players having to collect a select number of Power Eggs to advance to the next wave – oh, and at least one player on the team has to stay alive. This last part might be tough since the stage is overrun by Salmonid enemies and giant bosses, each with their own weakness.
Splatnet 2 is a new mobile app that keeps track of stage schedules, gear and stats, and even lets users view their lifetime inkage, a feature that shows how much turf a player has inked compared to real-world places. The Nintendo Switch Online app allows users to invite other players to join Private Battles, League Battles, Salmon Run and Splatfest Battles, as well as communicate with those players using voice chat.
Amiibo will give exclusive gear and allow for players to save gear and weapon loadouts so you can tap amiibo to your friend’s Nintendo Switch so you won’t have to waste time setting up your character or be afraid that they don’t have your favorite weapons or gear.
The single-player mode was also teased a bit but not much information was given.
Future content updates will include new weapons like the Bubble Blower and Splat Brella, which can block enemy attacks. New gear and stages will come to Splatoon 2 for at least a year.
Splatfests will also continue for two years, but now you can team up with friends to fight on the same team. A new Splatfest will begin July 15 from 6 to 10 p.m. EDT with the teams being “Cake is better than Ice Cream” or “Ice Cream is better than Cake.”
