Released to the US market through Nintendo Switch just last March 23, Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town is reported to have sold 200,000 units. That may not be much compared to other games but for XSEED Games, it’s a new milestone. It has become the fastest-selling title from XSEED to be released on a single platform in North America.
Before this, that record was held by Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town which managed to sell 200,000 units within five months of release. This game has since reached a new milestone with 250,000 units sold.
Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town is a game where players get to explore a seaside community called Olive Town. At its edge lies an untamed frontier where the neglected farm left by the player’s grandfather is located. The goal is to find a way to bring that farm back to life through exploration and interactions with different town residents.
It goes without saying that the main feature of the game is doing some work on the farm. Whenever the player improves the farm, the town develops along with it. The farm-related gameplay is deep yet comes with simple mechanics that any new player can quickly learn. Veteran players can enjoy it as well with some familiar features and new twists on select classic elements.
The game is part of the Bokujo Monogatari franchise released in Japan. This same franchise celebrated its 25th anniversary with the release of a new DLC. The DLC is part of an Expansion Pass divided into five parts. The Expansion Pass Set is available for $69.99 though players have the option to buy each part digitally for $19.99. The five parts are:
- Part 1 (April 29)
- “Animal Attire”
- “Olive Town Mystery Files” sub-scenario
- Part 2 (May 27)
- “School Uniforms”
- “Windswept Falls Expansion Pack”
- Part 3 (June 2021)
- “Terracotta Oasis Expansion Pack”
- Part 4 (July 2021)
- “Yukata Set”
- “The Legendary Sprite Dance” sub-scenario
- Part 5 (August 2021)
- “Twilight Isle Expansion Pack”
So what do you think of the game’s latest milestone? Do you think it’s going to break the 250,000 units sold record?
