In Grey’s Anatomy Season 12 Episode 18 and 19, Chief of Surgery Miranda Bailey will have to take major disciplinary action against her husband Ben, after he operates on a pregnant patient without the proper surgical tools. Ben performs an emergency cesarean in the middle of a hallway after the hospital has been locked down due to another emergency.
In an promo for episodes 18 and 19, Alex is operating on the mother following Ben’s impromptu C-section. Ben wants to help but Alex says he’s done enough. Ben tries to explain that he operated quickly because the woman’s life was in danger; however, Alex says the woman might still die.
Miranda must get serious when telling Ben to leave the room so she can speak with him. Later, in episode 19, Miranda will have an advisory committee decide Ben’s fate.
Will Ben lose his job at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital? We will find out in the upcoming episodes “There’s A Fine, Fine Line,” and “It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding),” which are best viewed on television or live online through ABC Live .
Ben is currently a fifth-year resident at Grey Sloan and he and Miranda have been navigating how they can work together and be married with Miranda in a significantly higher position. Previously, Ben was suspended for operating on a patient without proper direction from an attending. Miranda insisted that Ben would get no special treatment because he is married to the Chief of Surgery. She also told him if he pulled such a stunt again his punishment would be more severe.
The two-hour special will also involve a Code Pink, which in hospitals indicates that a child is missing. In an promo for episodes 18 and 19, Miranda and Alex speak with a lawyer after a child patient is taken from within the hospital by his father. They believe the man and his son are still in the hospital and propose sending out a Code Pink, which would shut down the hospital.
Miranda hesitates, but Alex is able to convince her to call the code by reminding her she’d want the same thing done if it were her own son, Tuck, who was missing.
Meanwhile, Callie may be faced with potentially leaving Seattle to move to New York with her girlfriend, Penny, so Penny can complete a research grant. In episode 17, Penny watched her resident colleagues apply for the grant, but wasn’t certain she could apply herself until she got encouragement from Callie.
April and Jackson will also continue to deal with their baby drama. In episode 17, April sends Jackson a restraining order after feeling threatened because Jackson’s mother, Katherine, wanted him to sue for full custody of their unborn child. April doesn’t realize until after Jackson has been served that he was willing to cooperate with whatever she wanted in terms of the baby. But the two will still try to get along. No doubt, Jackson will feel slighted by April’s move to take legal action against him.
The rest of the story unfolds Thursday when Grey’s Anatomy airs at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
