Episode 13 ended with Meredith giving her number to Major Eric Thorpe, who was flirting with her after her team saved a high-risk patient. This indicates that Meredith is ready to move on after Derek’s death. Throughout the episode, Meredith’s friends suggest other eligible doctors for her to date.
Bailey, Callie, Jackson, Jo and Meredith flew to a military hospital to operate on a man who had bone cancer in his pelvis. Callie devises a surgery to remove the diseased bone and amputate the corresponding leg, then use healthy bone from the amputated leg to attach the remaining leg to the spine. The surgery isrisky and Major Thorpe objects; however, Callie overcomes obstacles during the surgery and the patient survives.
Back at Grey-Sloan hospital, Ben performs a risky procedure on a patient, which Richard thinks is a stupid move. Bailey, now Chief of Surgery, reprimands Ben in keeping with her “no special treatment” policy. However, she is also interested in learning why he took such risks to save his patient.
Several cheerleaders arrive in the emergency room after one is injured during a performance. The girls are having drama within their squad but Stephanie is able to help them resolve their issues by using her own history as a cheerleader as an example.
Meanwhile, Maggie is anxious that Andrew wants to take their relationship public within the hospital. She solicits advice from her friends, who think dating a colleague isn’t a big deal. Eventually, she awkwardly announces that she is unavailable when another doctor asks her out on a date.
In episode 14, tensions between Jo and Meredith come to a head when Jo accuses Meredith of being too possessive of Alex. Jo believes Meredith has been getting in the way of their relationship, despite not giving Alex an answer to his proposal.
Later, Jo and Meredith are working on a case together and Jo gets upset when Meredith tries to correct her procedure. Jo tries to stand up for herself but goes on a tangent about how she feels about Meredith and Alex’s friendship, and eventually tells her, “get your own boyfriend.”
This could be the episode where Jackson finds out April is pregnant. April is certain she can handle her pregnancy on her own, but several of her friends, including Arizona and Alex, think Jackson may be dating other women.
Meanwhile, Arizona will take on a high-risk case of a woman pregnant with quadruplets.
