In Grey’s Anatomy Season 13 episode 8, which airs Thursday at 8 p.m. EST on ABC, Meredith and Webber have a conflict over the care of a patient in the middle of an operation. According to the episode 8 synopsis, the surgery “brings back pivotal memories for Meredith.” The patient is supposed to receive a liver transplant.
However, when the patient beings to code on the table, Meredith wants to make the choice to let him go. When Webber tries to argue this decision, Meredith pulls rank on him, stating that she is the chief general surgeon at Grey Sloan Memorial. This is a shocking move, considering Dr. Webber was the chief of surgery for the hospital for several years.
Webber has transitioned into several positions since be stepped down as chief. Most recently, he has been head of the resident program; however, he may soon be pushed out of that position as Chief Bailey intends to hire someone new and younger to revamp the resident program.
At this time, Webber is unaware of these changes and willing to work with the new resident coordinator, Dr. Eliza Minnick. However, this Minnick has told Chief Bailey that she works alone. The hospital has been on edge ever since Minnick arrived with several doctor fearing for their jobs.
