The one aspect of Arrow Season 5 the finale did not address is a villain we met earlier in the season: Vigilante. Back when we did not know Prometheus’ identity, most viewers assumed Adrian Chase was Vigilante. After all, that was Adrian Chase’s alias in the comics. But Arrow pulled a swift bait-and-switch. Adrian Chase actually turned out to be Prometheus. Coincidentally, Prometheus and Vigilante actually fought each other on a rooftop. Prometheus won, and we’ve never seen Vigilante in a large capacity since.
However, the Arrow producers say Vigilante will be a villain in Season 6. They even said we’ve already met Vigilante’s alter ego. The finale did not introduce any potential new candidates, so Vigilante’s identity is still 100 percent a mystery.
Here’s what we do know:
-He became Vigilante after the event of Genesis day in the Arrow Season 4 finale.
-Felicity’s files and research say he considers himself a red hat and a ‘hacktivist.’
-He’s a street level vigilante, stopping the Triad from gun sales and money laundering.
-Vigilante kills all his victims.
-Green Arrow almost unmasked him once, but an explosive went off which allowed Vigilante to escape. Vigilante also almost killed Green Arrow and Spartan, but The Flash zoomed in and saved them from the bullets.
-Vigilante actually attempted to kill Oliver for interfering with his efforts. Prometheus, however, wasn’t having it. He wanted Oliver to himself. The two bad guys go at it and Vigilante ends up being thrown off the side of a building. Vigilante lives, and goes after Oliver again, but Mr. Terrific fights with with T-spheres and he gets away.
-Vigilante believes Oliver can’t do what’s necessary for Star City.
Since Arrow won’t be back until October, here are the candidates for Vigilante as of right now:
REAL ADRIAN CHASE
Prometheus only called himself Adrian Chase. His real name was revealed as Simon Morrison. His mother’s name is Amanda Westfield (née Morrison) and father’s name Justin Claybourne. Why Prometheus chose the name Adrian Chase is still unclear and we have no idea where he got inspiration for the name form. His wife, who he murdered in cold blood, was named Doris Chase. So Adrian Chase must have legally changed his name. There could still be the real Adrian Chase out there. The last name Morrison is odd as well. There’s still the possibility that Adrian Chase lied about certain aspects of his past and the web of deceit could affect the Vigilante identity reveal.
CAYDEN JAMES
During the episode where Felicity abandons Team Arrow to save a Helix agent, we meet a character named Cayden James, who appears to be the leader of Helix. We never see his face because there’s a cover over his head, but it’s clear the Arrow writers are trying to keep his past and identity a secret. It also can’t be a coincidence that the Helix storyline, which was really heating up, just came to a complete stop. Why would they just use Felicity and then cut her off right after James is released? The reason for it was supposedly because Felicity was too close to Team Arrow. But if Helix wasn’t going to be a big part of Season 6, why would they bother to introduce him at all?
ARGUS knows a lot of stuff that Team Arrow doesn’t, as we’ve seen by the way Lyla’s top position has hampered her and Dig’s relationship. ARGUS marked James as a person of interest and had him locked up in a black site facility. At this point, the details of James imprisonment are unclear. If he was in prison dating back to Amanda Waller’s time, it may not be possible for him to be the Vigilante. But that doesn’t mean Vigilante isn’t at least a Helix associate, especially considering Felicity’s files.
DEATHSTROKE’S SON, JOE
Right when Oliver asked for Deathstroke’s help, he handed Slade a flashdrive with all the information he had on Slade’s son, Joe. The age of Slade Wilson’s son is unknown, but it’s quite possible Joe would have a vengence against Oliver for locking his father in an ARGUS prison for many years.
BILLY WINTERGREEN
Joe Wilson’s godfather, Slade Wilson, killed Billy with a knife through the eye on Lian Yu. Billy and Slade came to Lian Yu together to rescue Yao Fei, but Billy allied himself with Edward Fyers and ditched Slade. It’s not super likely, but there’s a chance Billy lived and became Vigilante.
DORIAN CHASE
In the comics, Adrian Chase has a brother named Dorian. There’s possibility the same thing happens in the show. While Prometheus is certainly more of a crazy serial killer, Vigilante is just a brutal anti-hero. After Adrian dies as Vigilante in the comics, Dorian takes his place.
KOVAR’S SON
The Kovar storyline came to an abrupt halt in the Season 5 finale. The flashbacks didn’t really have any further meaning than synching the finale up with the premiere episode. For a while, it seemed like the show was teasing the flashbacks having something to do with the present day storyline, such as Adrian Chase actually being Kovar’s son. While that wasn’t revealed, Kovar could still have a son that wants revenge on Oliver.
Who is Vigilante? Cayden James makes the most sense right now considering we have briefly met him, but let us know what you think in the comments!
