The Nintendo Switch 2 preorders last week was nothing short of rowdy and confusing for gamers who want the new console, but one particular retailer, GameStop, has recently been under fire for so-called "shady tactics" during the period.

It was revealed by the company that they are now investigating the so-called "tactics" that a specific retail store in New York used when it offered pricier Switch 2 bundles.

It is known that Nintendo only offers two versions of the Switch 2 console, with one focusing on the console and the Joy-Cons itself, while the other one bundles its "Mario Kart World" with the console.

GameStop Is Investigating Pricier Switch 2 Bundle Tactics

GameStop's Help account on X has recently replied to a complaint by a user who claims that one retail store in New York, particularly their Astoria branch, has been offering those who queued physically pricier bundles of the Nintendo Switch 2.

This has been the case during the rowdy pre-order process for the Switch 2, with GameStop specifically under fire for this said tactic.

According to GameStop, it is now investigating what happened at the said retail branch after the Switch 2 pre-order fiasco, particularly as some customers were reportedly turned away if they did not agree to the bundle.

Instead of providing the usual offers from Nintendo, customers claimed that this GameStop Astoria branch claimed buyers also needed to purchase consoles, controllers, and screen protectors as part of their purchase.

It was revealed that customers were turned away if they did not want to get the unofficial bundle of the Switch 2 with the said accessories, and this led to other buyers leaving the Astoria store and walking out without a secured Switch 2 unit.

Now, GameStop wants to make things right for their customers, telling them that they may send the company's Help account a DM if they were among those turned away by retail employees for opting out of the unofficial bundle.

Nintendo did not require or encourage gamers to purchase console accessories and protectors as part of their Switch 2 pre-orders, and according to ComicBook Gaming, this is not the first incident involving GameStop as it happened with the PS5 and Xbox Series S and X pre-orders.

Users Complain About GameStop's Switch Pre-Orders

It is important to note that the regular pre-orders for both SKUs only offer the standalone Switch 2 console at $449.99, and the bundle featuring the Switch 2 console and a copy of "Mario Kart World" at $499.99.

That being said, there have been various complaints about this pre-order tactics of the certain GameStop stores. Other users have claimed that one GameStop branch required them to be "Pro members" and were required to get a minimum of three accessories to secure a unit from the store.
