Sony's iconic "God of War" franchise wrapped things up for Kratos' story when it released 2022's "God of War: Ragnarok," but despite its popularity, new rumors about the franchise are already dividing fans.
While there have been no confirmations yet from Sony Santa Monica, "God of War's" developers, it has been rumored that the company is working on another game.
Fans are currently divided as the rumor revealed that there will be another reboot for the "God of War" franchise in its next game, and this follows the recent revamp of the series that was introduced in 2018.
New 'God of War' Rumor Is Dividing Fans
A new report from ComicBook Gaming follows up on the latest rumor shared by an industry source, Tom Henderson, who recently talked about an upcoming "God of War" game that would see another reboot.
Fans are now expressing their mixed feelings about this information about the next "God of War" game, which is reportedly making its way back to Ancient Greece.
It is important to note that it will be almost seven years since the original trilogy of the game turned the tides and headed to Ancient Scandinavia where the franchise dove deep into the Norse mythology. While this was a controversial move for Sony Santa Monica, the 2018 "God of War" reboot was greatly accepted by its fanbase and highly regarded for its story, gameplay, and more.
However, Henderson's rumor said that Sony Santa Monica is touching up on Kratos' roots again after the events of "God of War: Ragnarok," and this trip back to memory lane will take the public on a journey in Ancient Greece.
Kratos is known as a demigod back in the original trilogy of the game and is primarily rooted in Greek mythology, but fans welcomed the franchise's shift to Norse mythology.
Now, it is dividing fans yet again as some are welcoming this return to Ancient Greece for the future installment of "God of War," yet there are others who are overwhelmed with this new information.
'God of War' to See a Reboot Again?
Should the rumor be true, "God of War" is possibly getting a reboot yet again as it makes its return to Ancient Greece. It was also revealed by the rumor that this game is slated for a 2025 release and would be unveiled later in the year, but there is still no official word from Sony Santa Monica or PlayStation themselves.
However, this next game, which is possibly a reboot, is not exactly a continuation of the franchise after the events of "God of War: Ragnarok." The report claims that the next game may be a prequel to the character's story, with this new title may be set to portray a younger Kratos than the original trilogy.
This new "God of War" game is also being compared to "Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales," which centered on a solo story for the character being introduced in "Marvel's Spider-Man 2" to join Peter Parker.
