Disguised Toast accidentally leaked that Hearthstone’s next expansion, Knights Of The Frozen Throne , will reportedly release on August 10. A certain pointy haired caster gave me that information after a late night bar session in Shanghai, so thankfully I wasn’t the one to give that information away.
The Knights Of The Frozen Throne expansion is only a few weeks away and I’m having trouble hiding my excitement. Un’Goro was a nice place to visit, but I’m tired of dinosaurs and murlocs dominating my games. I’m looking for something a bit more undead and horrid to give me nightmares that keep me up. My night frights are populated by Patches right now, and it’s really hard to tell my girlfriend why I woke up in the middle of the night screaming “yarr matey.”
In my boredom and need for this expansion to come out already, I’ve compiled a list of cards I want to see in the Knights Of The Frozen Throne expansion. I’m not a lore hound for World Of Warcraft – I played the game for about a week before realizing Azeroth wasn’t for me, but I’ve been playing Hearthstone for two years and know the game inside and out.
A Legendary Totem- During Ben Brode’s reddit AMA, someone asked why there hasn’t been a Legendary card for the Shaman type with no arms: Totems. There have been Legendary Murlocs, Dragons and Beasts, so it feels like it’s about time to see a Totem get the spotlight. Totems are a unique archetype in Hearthstone that usually have zero attack, but high defense and a bonkers ability. Drawing cards, summoning Murlocs or buffing your minions are all powerful abilities – imagine what Team 5 could do with a Legendary slab of mythical wood.
The Lich King- This one’s a given, but I still wanted to blab about it. The whole Knights Of The Frozen Throne expansion is based on one simple idea: what if the heroes of Azeroth weren’t able to beat the Lich King and everyone turned into Death Knights? With the world overrun by zombies and Death Lords, what would everything look like? I imagine a cold, desolate wasteland where nothing lives unless it was dead first. The Lich King has to be a powerful card, eight or nine mana at least, with epic entrance music and a quote that sends shivers down your spine.
“Freeze all enemies, then laugh maniacally until your opponent end their turn.” Yeah, that sounds about right.
Frostmourne- The Lich King’s powerful blade has been missing from Hearthstone’s armory for much too long. Truesilver Champion, Fire Plume’s Heart and Gorehowl are some of World Of Warcraft’s most impressive sharp objects, but are nothing compared to the power of Frostmourne. The blade that can bring a chill down your spine or summon an army of undead zombies surely deserves at least a single card in the expansion. Keep the mana cost midrange, around five or six, and then just go crazy with the idea. Turn your hero into a Death Knight or summon the Lich King, it just has to be epic.
Zombies- Hearthstone doesn’t have enough flesh-eating ghouls, Zombie Chow has been lonely for the longest time. Every expansion needs a gimmick archetype and what’s better than a bunch of reanimated corpses? I’m most likely going to have to regret this decision, when Brode announces the new Zombie class and it’s broken to no end.
“Raise an infinite army of 2/2 minions with Taunt” Brode chuckles maniacally during the reveal stream.
