Things have been difficult for Blizzard lately, especially after the disastrous Warcraft 3: Reforged launch, which saw the title become the lowest user rated game ever on Metacritic. But that’s not all. Last year Blizzard also had to deal with the Diablo Immortal announcement fiasco and the Blitzchung controversy. All of this surely damaged their reputation as a respected video game developer.
To deal with the Warcraft debacle, Blizzard started giving unconditional refunds for their game, no question asked. During an Activision Q4 investor call, Blizzard President J. Allen Brack accepted that the last few weeks have been difficult for the company, but also ensured that they are not beaten just yet.
"Concerning Warcraft 3: Reforged, honestly, it's been a bit of a hard week. Our community has come to expect really amazing things from us, and we've heard from them that we did not achieve that bar," Brack said. "But we stand behind our games, and have consistently shown that not only do we support them, but we continue to build on them even after launch. And we're committed to doing that here as well. We're going to continue to update the game, and we're going to continue to update the community with our plans going forward."
It seems like Blizzard is going to support the remaster for a while. Warcraft 3: Reforged has angered a lot of fans because of its broken promises, from missing updated cinematics to the lack of additional features. Blizzard will have to do a lot of work if they want to win back their fans. The upcoming Diablo 4 will have to be nothing short of a masterpiece if Blizzard wants to regain its reputation.
