Call Of Duty: WWII multiplayer aims to infuse historical Call Of Duty vibes with some brand new features. With that mission in mind, Sledgehammer Games Co-Studio Head Michael Condrey just tweeted a picture of the game’s unfinished menus. It shows a brand new area called Daily Mode.

When Call Of Duty enthusiast Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag mentioned he was “currently day dreaming about a potential ranked playlist in COD: WW2,” Condrey replied with “Zzzzz....” and the work-in-progress menu design shown above. While it’s fairly dark, here are the sections we’re able to see.

  • Public Match: Join an unranked public battle. Choose to fight in a variety of modes and maps.

  • Nazi Zombies

The main area of intrigue among those possible selections is, of course, Daily Mode. With no description to go by, fans are already speculating about how the feature might be used. Conventional wisdom suggests it could be a daily version of the Weekend Warfare playlist introduced in Modern Warfare Remastered earlier this year.

For those who don’t own the game, Weekend Warfare is a special playlist that runs Friday through Monday, and it spotlights modes with unique rules. For example, this week’s promotion brings the Demolition mode from Modern Warfare 2 into the original game. During past weekends, there have also been restrictions based on weapons, health, Scorestreaks and more. In few words, it's an officially sanctioned way to play offbeat match types like gun game.

The implication here is that Daily Mode could very well be a daily version of that concept. It would be an interesting way for Sledgehammer to ensure that players in WWII aren’t just cycling through the same modes over and over again. Offering special rewards for trying out the Daily Mode would push players to discover what the full multiplayer suite has to offer. This is pure speculation on our part, but, given that we’ve seen similar implementations in recent Call Of Duty titles, a new spin on that existing idea seems fairly plausible.

As for the menu design, we can’t help but be reminded of the box-based stylings used in several Electronic Arts shooters like Battlefield 1 and Star Wars Battlefront. The pictured aesthetic is obviously unfinished and could change considerably before the final game releases in November, but it looks suitable for the variety-centric approach Sledgehammer appears to be espousing.

While there’s not a ton here to go on, this development is still interesting because we don’t know much about Call Of Duty: WWII’s multiplayer at all. Beyond a brief showcase during E3, we’ve yet to get a real sense of how online matches feel and play compared to their predecessors. We also only know about a couple of maps, so we expect there’s lots more to see in the future.

Call Of Duty: WWII comes to PS4, Xbox One and PC Nov. 3.
