Legendary Marvel Comics creator Chris Claremont is synonymous with X-Men. Maybe it’s because he, along with Ann Nocenti and Louise Simonson, brought a team of mutants that readers (and creators) didn’t want to touch to the forefront of pop culture. A new re-release of the 2013 documentary, Chris Claremont’s X-Men from director Patrick Meaney, adds additional footage that more deeply explores how Claremont, Nocenti and Simonson worked together to create some of the most beloved stories in the publisher’s history.

The re-release has more than 40 minutes of new footage including never-before-seen interviews with industry giants Rob Liefeld, Marc Silvestri and more as they discuss the impact both Claremont and the X-Men comics he penned made on them.
The film also includes Claremont’s thoughts on seeing his stories adapted for films and television.

Chris Claremont came to Marvel as a young man, and was assigned a book that no one else wanted, a book on the brink of cancellation: X-Men. Over the next 17 years, his work on the title turned it into the biggest franchise in comic book history. Forty years later, his work has been adapted into ten films, three TV series, countless video games and become a part of our cultural mythology. But, it all started with one writer and his commitment to emotionally honest storytelling and real character building.
Some very notable stories written or co-written by Claremont include The Dark Phoenix Saga and Days of Future Past, both have been adapted for film already. Another film based on The Dark Phoenix Saga is coming in 2018.
Claremont was also one of the creators of the New Mutants, which are getting their own film as well.
