Summer is typically a time when Supercell shuts down and little is heard from the team until the fall. This year, however, the company has been pretty active in keeping players abreast of new and upcoming developments in their popular and upcoming games. In a Q&A posted on Clash Royale official forums on Wednesday morning, the company gave some vague but intriguing insight into changes can expect to see coming out of fall updates. Among them were news that we’ll “probably” be seeing daily tasks added, as well as a “really cool” new game mode.
It’s surprising Clash Royale hasn’t implemented a daily task system already, as these kind of rewards certainly draw me back to my favorite games on a regular basis. While there are daily chests to unlock, players can do this easily enough without actually playing the game. Daily goals would be a great way to get more players active in the game on a regular basis.
In terms of this “really” cool new game mode, Supercell was pretty vague. In fact, there wasn’t even one crumb of info about what this game mode might be, except that it won’t be a bracketed tournament system -- a feature a lot of Clash Royale players have been gunning for. Supercell did reveal that a bracketed tournament system was being considered for the distant future, but not to expect it in the next update.
Supercell was careful to use a lot of “probablys” in their Q&A, so whether or not these features will actually show in the next update is not fully confirmed. The company revealed the next update will likely not be seen until October, so there’s still plenty of time for the rumor mill to drum up hearsay. Meanwhile, here are a few other possible update items discussed in the Q&A:
More Ways To Add Friends - In the last major Clash Royale update, Supercell implemented a new way to start adding your friends to the game via social media, text and email, but players are still lacking a way to make people they battle with or against friends. Supercell admitted that this was an option they’d been considering adding for a while and that it could potentially appear in the next update.
2v2 Leaderboards Aren’t Coming Anytime Soon - Despite the fact that leaderboards have been regularly requested for 2v2 mode, Supercell doesn’t have any plans to implement something like this in the near future as they are attempting to keep 2v2 battles as “stress-free” as possible.
Improved Tournaments - Supercell admitted that its tournament system still needs a lot of work and while a complete revamp is currently on the backburner, it has been taking suggestions and thinking about changes to test. At earliest, Clash Royale could see changes to custom tournaments in December, but no timeline for other tournament changes was mentioned.
Preventing Card Leaks - Card leaks have been a big problem in Clash Royale and Supercell is aware of it. The company is actively working on ways to improve the system so these leaks won’t occur, but changes won’t likely come before the December update or later.
