Cyberpunk 2077 reached an impressive milestone yesterday. The latest game by CD Projekt Red has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide, the developer announced via a tweet.
Over 20 million cyberpunks have been roaming the streets of Night City – partying with Jackie and getting to know Johnny, driving around with Panam and diving with Judy, hanging out with River and listening to Kerry’s songs.

The Initial Problems
This accomplishment means a lot to the developer, especially of what transpired before. Everyone remembers the disastrous launch of the game, which was followed by multiple lawsuits. The game suffered from so many technical issues that Sony refused to sell it on its platform and delisted it from PlayStation Store for almost six months. Sales would have been higher by a few more millions if Sony hadn’t done that.
Previous Sales Count
Impressive it may be, but the sales figure doesn’t come as a surprise. The game had already sold 13 million copies in December 2020. Heck, the title became profitable from pre-orders alone. The developer revealed this April that Cyberpunk 2077 had crossed the 18 million sales mark, meaning that it sold 2 more million copies in only a few months.
Updates and Patches
After almost two years since launch, the game is in a much better state. The developer recently released a massive update that brought new content, added highly-demanded features, and fixed a plethora of bugs. Another update is in the work that will rework police and vehicular combat.
Each day of this week Night City has been visited by 1 million players, both new and returning.

Player Count Jump
After the well-deserving initial criticism, Cyberpunk 2077 is getting many of its fans back. Thanks to the recent Netflix show Cyberpunk Edgerunners, the game received a major boost in player count. In the last week, Night City was visited by over a million players each day.
Upcoming Expansion
There’s no doubt that the game will see even more success in the future. CD Projekt announced Phantom Liberty, an upcoming expansion set for next year, but it is only available on next-gen consoles, Stadia, and PC. Xbox One and PS4 users won’t be able to purchase it.
We are sure the game will see another sales boost once the expansion launches. Unfortunately, it will be the only expansion for the game. Cyberpunk 2077 won’t get two story DLCs like the Witcher 3 did.
