CD Projekt Red has confirmed that gamers who purchase Cyberpunk 2077 for Xbox One will also be able to play the game on Xbox Series X for free. This was in response to the latest Xbox Series X spec reveal tweet from Xbox. The developer of the acclaimed Witcher franchise stated that "gamers should never be forced to purchase the same game twice or pay for upgrades."
So, whoever owns Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox One when it releases, will also get a free upgrade on Xbox Series X should they upgrade their console.
However, one thing is uncertain. It's unclear whether this free upgrade is actually a full-fledged next-gen port of the upcoming futuristic RPG game, or just backward compatibility of the Xbox One version of the game. Earlier, CDPR stated that Cyberpunk 2077 will not be available to play on either PS5 or Xbox Series X upon launch. When several journalists reached out to CDPR, the game studio did not have any additional information at that moment.
Additionally, Microsoft has also revealed that its next-gen gaming console will be utilizing Smart Delivery technology, which ensures that "you only have to purchase a title once in order to play the best available version for whichever Xbox console you choose to play on."
While we have already touched on the topic on the topic of Xbox Series X spec reveal, let's give you a rundown of all the exciting features gamers can expect in the upcoming gaming console.
The Xbox Series X is going to be powered by a custom-designed AMD processor, leveraging the power of Zen 2 and RDNA 2 architecture. Gamers will also enjoy features like Variable Rate Shading (VRS) and Hardware-Accelerated DirectX Raytracing for graphical fidelity. Additional features that have been revealed include Quick Resume, Dynamic Latency Input (DLI) and, of course, Smart Delivery technology.
