The next Fallout 4 DLC, Vault-Tec Workshop, will release on July 26. This news comes from the Bethesda livestream revealing the expansion.
Along with a release date, Bethesda detailed the DLC and answered some of the biggest questions we have. For starters, players will get a radio signal to kick off the DLC. This signal will lead the player to the new Vault 88, an abandoned vault for players to test out creating their own dwellings.
The vault is run by a robotic Overseer, who wants your help with finishing her experiments. This quest line is new to Fallout 4, and will probably be pretty short.
As for new things coming in the DLC, there are a whole ton of settlement items players should be excited for. Perhaps one of the most intriguing is a new console called the Vault Population Management System. This computer not only allows players to help control the inhabitants in each settlement, it will also allow players to track down companions who may have been lost in the shuffle. Can’t remember where Dogmeat ran off to? Now you can find him with ease.
There’s also all of the Vault construction pieces. These include huge atriums, small nurseries, generator rooms, Overseer offices and more. These pieces will be able to snap together to form your own vaults, with everything you have come to expect from a Fallout 4 vault. It will even be easy to make overhead walkways to connect rooms on a second floor.
Another exciting feature is the addition of “clean” furniture. Instead of only being able to build nasty-looking beds and run-down dressers, these clean pieces of furniture will look brand new and much more comfortable. A handful of other new objects were also shown, including new signage, posters and more.
While players are given the Vault 88 area to play around with, Vault-Tec Workshop pieces can be used at any settlement. It doesn’t seem like you will be able to make underground vaults everywhere, unfortunately.
The user interface for settlement building has also seen a slight tweak. With the Vault-Tec Workshop DLC, players will be able to see what DLC each new construction item came with. A gear icon will be for the Vault Workshop, a Deathclaw head for Wasteland Workshop, a boat for Far Harbor and a factory building for Contraptions Workshop.
Bethesda didn’t want to go too in-depth with the gameplay, so as not to reveal any story spoilers for the new DLC. Vault-Tec Workshop releases on PS4, Xbox One and PC July 26.
