Developer Wide Right Games has announced that its shoot-em-up game set in space, Freedom Finger, will launch on September 27, 2019 for the Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions will follow later in 2019.
Freedom Finger is describing itself as a “bat%#!% crazy space shooter”. Players assume control of rookie space pilot Gamma Ray, aboard his bad ass, giant, fist-shaped ship. Tasked with saving lunar scientists who have been taken hostage by space terrorists, players have to embark on this intergalactic rescue mission and soon discover that the rabbit hole goes deeper, forcing them to make difficult decisions that dictate the fate of the innocent hostages. From its trailer to its screenshots, Freedom Finger is filled with tongue-in-cheek and satirical humor that provides acute social commentary as the story unfolds over 36 deadly levels of shoot em-up action.
Freedom Finger’s gameplay revolves around conventional shmup elements, but with the addition of using your ship and your enemies as weapons. Since players will be commandeering a giant fist for a ship, they will be able to punch, toss, and smash enemies, along with the usual guns and missiles that you can also upgrade throughout the game. The game is presented in hand-drawn animation by LA-based illustrator and Art Director Travis Millard, and is accompanied by a unique soundtrack from a plethora of artists from different genres such as Red Fang, METZ, Power Trip, Com Truise, White Fence, Ty Segall, Makeup and Vanity Set, True Widow, The Radio Dept., Drab Majesty, John Maus, Vektroid, Danimal Cannon, Cleaners from Venus, Male Gaze, Ezee Tiger, The Mall, and many more.
The game’s voicework is also undeniably star-studded, with a cast of accomplished and recognized voice actors such as Nolan North (Nathan Drake in the Uncharted series, Desmond Miles in the Assassins Creed series), John DiMaggio (Bender from Futurama and Jake the Dog in Adventure Time), Eric Bauza (the voice for Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck in the upcoming Space Jam 2), and Sam Riegel (Donatello in the 2003 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle series and Phoenix Wright in the Ace Attorney video game series).
Freedom Finger seems to bring a lot to the table, from a unique gameplay mechanic to a socially aware theme. For those looking to find out if they hit or miss on their targets, expect Freedom Fingers on the Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam on September 27.
