The Night King led Daenerys and Jon into a trap beyond the wall and managed to set himself up for a big win.

Unfortunately, Dany’s dragon Viserion died in Game of Thrones Season 7 episode 6. The Night King threw a spear at Viserion and pierced his chest. Not sure what the spear was made of, but you know damn well Cersei will probably be looking into it once she finds out. It was heartbreaking watching everyone look on as Viserion screamed in pain. His body sunk to the bottom of the frozen lake as Dany looked on.

And it only gets worse.

While everyone was waiting for Jon to get back to the Wall, the Night King had his army fish out Viserion's body. The wights used enormous chains -- not sure where they came from, but OK -- to pull the body out. The Night King walked over and touched Viserion. The dragon blinks and wakes up, revealing a terrible, ice blue eye.

So now The Night King has an ice dragon. And it’s no mistake Viserion was the one who died. He was named after Dany’s older brother, Viserys. It’s only right that Drogon -- named after Dany's beloved Khal Drogo -- be the one to fight Viserion. Drogo killed Viserys for her, after all.

This turn of events in "Beyond the Wall" also increases the chances of Drogon dying by the end of the series. We wouldn't be surprised if it was Rhaegal, named after Dany’s brother Rhaegar, is the last one standing. This leads us to all the dragon rider theories book readers have obsessed about.

In the Song of Ice and Fire books, Daenerys enters the House of the Undying and receives several visions. She enters several rooms and each has a specific scene. One of the rooms showed the following:

The fifth room, finally, shows a man very much alike her brother Viserys, except that he is taller and has eyes of dark indigo rather than lilac. He is speaking to a woman who is nursing a newborn babe, telling her that the child's name should be Aegon and saying "What better name for a king?" The woman asks him if he will make a song for the child, and he replies that he has a song and that "He is the prince that was promised, and his is the song of ice and fire." He appears to look at Dany then, as if seeing her, and then he adds that "There must be one more," and "the dragon has three heads."

-Excerpt from A Song of Ice And Fire

“The dragon has three heads” has been the center of many fan theories. It’s led people to believe Dany’s two other dragons would have riders. Dany would ride Drogon, Jon would ride Rhaegal or Viserion. This leaves one dragon up for grabs. Many thought the third rider would be Tyrion or Jorah, but neither really fit. Well, it looks like the third rider is actually the Night King.

It sucks to see Viserion die, but it makes sense. The show is evening out the playing field on all sides. It gave Cersei her money and time to strategize and now Dany has lost a dragon. Dany can still take King’s Landing with two dragons, but an ice dragon helps the Night King immensely. Freezing a large amount of bodies at once will allow him to build an army very quickly.
