SIE Santa Monica Studio, the famed development studio behind God of War, is currently hiring folks with “knowledge of God of War”, indicating that it’s likely that the studio is beginning work on a sequel to the 2018 smash-hit title.
In a recent job listing posted by SIE Santa Monica Studio, we know that they’re looking for a Combat Designer and that applicants “Must have knowledge of God of War (2018) and be able to speak about the combat systems, mechanics and enemies.” If they’re looking for someone with knowledge of the God of War combat systems, it’s likely they’re trying to build a similar, improved system for another game, most likely a sequel, but also possibly something entirely different.
Neither Sony nor Santa Monica Studio have confirmed or denied anything yet, but we’re eagerly awaiting their announcement as to what the studio is up to. After all, when God of War celebrated its first anniversary, they were already hinting at the possibility of a sequel. The phrase “Ragnarok Is Coming.” was teased in the PS4 dynamic theme released for the anniversary event, followed by announcements that God of War won’t be getting any DLC, but that the story of Kratos and Atreus were far from over.
So far, the only concrete information available is that Santa Monica Studio is hiring people with knowledge of God of War, and everything else is mere speculation. However, it’s only natural for fans to assume that the studio is working on something new, and that something new is probably a sequel to God of War. Either that or a game that’s strikingly similar.
Released in 2018, God of War has won numerous awards and nominations for its stellar gameplay, masterful storytelling, and for reaching new heights in the gaming industry. Since then, the studio has received accolade after accolade for pulling off one of the best video game titles of the decade, and many in the gaming community are excited to find out what they have planned next.
