The next-generation iPhone 7 won’t look all that different from the iPhone 6s, if recent rumors prove true. However, a complete design overhaul is expected for the iPhone 8, when Apple is rumored to switch to OLED display technology. According to Nikkei, Apple’s 2017 line will release in three sizes.
The report indicates Apple will release a premium version with a curved screen of 5.5 inches or larger to rival the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. The largest edition will be the only iPhone with an OLED screen. The 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models will have an LCD display, the same as the current iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
Reliable KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s earlier predictions corroborate reports we’ll have to wait until the iPhone 8 for a complete design overhaul. Kuo said he believes Apple’s premium iPhone 8 will have a 5.8-inch display.
Samsung is reportedly on track to supply the majority of iPhone 8 displays. However, FoxConn has been developing OLED technology with Apple in mind as well.
With the iPhone 8 over a year away, other rumored features include a wraparound screen, "virtual buttons ” and an array of interesting drawings in Apple’s arsenal of patents.
