The upcoming DLC for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will bring an extended adventure to the world of Hyrule, and the producer of the first Nintendo Switch title has confirmed players will still be playing as Link and not Zelda.
Eiji Aonuma’s words about the upcoming DLC appeared on the Nintendo of Europe Twitter account, along with some development footage of The Champions’ Ballad DLC for Breath of the Wild that was shown at this year’s Japan Expo.

Not much is known about the upcoming Breath of the Wild DLC , called The Champions’ Ballad, but the trailer released during E3 2017 suggests fans will be able to play through some of the backstory of The Champions of Hyrule, before Calamity Ganon’s influence took over.
However, with Zelda being in the middle of the Champions (instead of Link) many fans speculated that this would be the first time Zelda would be playable in a proper Legend of Zelda game.
Unfortunately, it seems that will have to wait as Zelda will only be taking center stage in The Champions’ Ballad DLC as a focal point of the story. Her backstory and her relationship with the other Champions (especially Link) will be explored deeper.
Take a look at the Champions’ Ballad DLC trailer from E3 below (starts around the 2:12 mark). The DLC will release during the holiday season.
The first DLC pack for Breath of the Wild released on June 30 and included the Trial of the Sword, Hard Mode and new masks and gear.
