The Legion Season 2 release date is set for April 3, FX has confirmed. The network’s premiere announcement did not come with any new footage. In fact, fans know barely anything about the second season of David Haller’s journey in disentangling delusion from reality.
David should be better off knowing he’s not all that crazy, though. That’ll be the difference between Seasons 1 and 2. Treated for schizophrenia his whole life, he finally becomes aware he’s the strongest mutant in the world. In fact, Executive Producer Noah Hawley wants to flip the script and study psychology from the macro level, instead of the micro. David is now the sane man in the insane world. “Mental illness can also be cultural in a way, so those issues were interesting to me,” Hawley said during the TCA Winter tour.
However, due to a time jump, fans must still get comfortable with the unknown. “I didn’t want to go in Season 2 like it’s all clarity all the time, so we built in a time jump,” Hawley said according to /Film. “We can muddy the waters again. I think that’s the fun of the show, the mystery of trying to figure things out.”
The Shadow King is also back this year and he will no longer use Aubrey Plaza’s character, Lenny (RIP), as a host. Said Taghmaoui, who played the big bad in Season 1, also will not return for another round. Navid Negahban of Homeland will join the cast in Taghmaoui’s place. Even though David’s mind is finally free from the ancient demon’s rule, Shadow King (aka Amahl Farouk) is on a new path to attain infinite and world-ending power in Season 2.
The first season ended with David finding allies at Summerland, a safe haven for mutants led by Melanie Bird. She helps mutants learn to control their powers, as we saw with David, and protects them from Division 3, a government organization that deals with mutant affairs. Season 1 also left off with David’s romance with Syd heating up, but considering the time jump, it’s unclear where exactly Legion Season 2 wills start. Any ideas? Sound off in the comments.
