Wizard of the Coast revealed an all new game in the world of Magic: The Gathering unlike any before it. Magic: Legends is an MMO action-RPG game set in the multiverse of Magic: The Gathering. Apart from a short trailer, no additional details for Magic: Legends is known yet. It's interesting to see how Wizard of the Coast is continuing to expand into the world of video games. The company has been rolling out updates for Magic: The Gathering - Arena, and now Magic: Legends.
Before you get hyped up for the game, it is important to know that there are no gameplay elements shown in the trailer. And, we can't judge the game purely based on the trailer. That said, we do know players will create Planeswalkers as their characters in Magic: Legends.
Development for Magic: Legends began in 2017 by Cryptic Studios, following the success of Neverwinter. The team behind the game is led by Stephen Ricossa, former executive producer for Star Trek Online. "Cryptic Studios is known for making games based on franchises we love and this is no exception," Ricossa said in a press statement. "We've assembled a team of talented developers who are incredibly passionate about Magic: The Gathering and share a collective deep knowledge of the franchise. We're thrilled to have the opportunity to bring the multiverse to life in a way that fans have never experienced before."
Being a live service game, Magic: Legends could also witness new expansions in areas of worlds and playable characters to keep the game fresh and exciting. It wouldn't be surprising to see missions based on storylines from card sets included as well.
As stated by Wizard of the Coast, additional information for Magic: Legends is planned for release in January. A beta is also scheduled to release in 2020, but no other information on when a full release is expected was revealed.
