Two new difficulty levels are now available in Metroid Dread courtesy of the recently released free update. There are also other changes that are sure to excite players like the new features. The demo has been updated as well.
New Difficulty Levels
- Rookie Mode
- This difficulty increases health gained from items and decreases damage from bosses.
- This is a good choice for those who want less intense action while experiencing the same excitement of discovery and exploration throughout the planet ZDR.
- Dread Mode
- This mode tests just how good players claim they are.
- One hit means the end for the intergalactic bounty hunter Samus Aran.
- Those who want a shot at this challenge need to first finish Hard Mode.
Here are the other changes that arrived with this free update:
- Expanded Mission Result page
- In addition to Clear Time, players can now see stats that include:
- Total Play Time (which includes time spent on the in-game map and all retries)
- Item Collection Rate
- Times Defeated
- Total Damage Received
- Demo updates
- Players can now try the Rookie Mode and take on the Corpius boss found in the early parts of the game.
What else is being planned for Metroid Dread? The Boss Rush mode will be added by the April update. Here, players get to face the gauntlet of the game's deadly bosses.
In Metroid Dread, players control the bounty hunter Samus Aran as she explores the planet ZDR. It has some of the elements of the previous games in the franchise like the side-scrolling gameplay, free aim, and melee attacks. This new game adds something fresh - stealth elements. Samus can now avoid enemies by doing actions like hiding and reducing noise. She can also use the Phantom Cloak that turns her invisible, though it slows her movement.
The game was released on Nintendo Switch in October 2021. It has received generally positive reviews with many citing how the game modernizes a classic game. Metroid Dread was named as Best Action/Adventure Game at The Game Awards 2021.
