Out of all the announcements during the Nintendo E3 2017 presentation, the biggest surprise was probably the announcement of Metroid Prime 4.
It’s been awhile since a console-level Metroid game was released and Metroid Prime 4 will continue the adventures of Samus in the Prime universe. Check out the Metroid Prime 4 announcement trailer below.
There is no release date or even a year that fans should expect Metroid Prime 4, but it’s currently in development for the Nintendo Switch.
That said, there is another Metroid game is coming this year in the form of Metroid: The Return of Samus for the Nintendo 3DS. Metroid: Samus Returns is a modern reimagining of the 1991 Game Boy game, Metroid II: Return of Samus.
Samus Aran’s arsenal has been enhanced with new moves and abilities such as the powerful Melee Counter, 360-degree Free Aim Mode and mysterious Aeion Abilities. This intense, side-scrolling action-platformer has been completely remade with engaging and immersive 3D visuals and a rich, atmospheric color palette. The game launches on Sept. 15.

The announcement of Metroid: Samus Returns reasserts Nintendo’s backing of the Nintendo 3DS platform as well as a great way to sell the new Nintendo 2DS XL. There were no 3DS announcements during the actual E3 2017 presentation and the Metroid II remake was announced during the Nintendo Treehouse Live, but there are still plenty of 3DS games coming this year.
Ever Oasis, Hey Pikmin and Miitopia are just some of the titles coming this summer, with Pok é mon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon coming this Fall.
