A presentation given at semiconductor company AMD’s 2016 Investor Day may have tipped us off to processor production for the Nintendo NX and even hinted at the console’s unveiling at Tokyo Game Show. Nintendo will not debut the NX at E3, with VR World claiming that Nintendo has instead settled on a reveal at the Tokyo Game Show, scheduled for Sept. 15-18 at the Makuhari Messe convention center.
The VR World report includes a slide from the AMD presentation that includes the line “ new semi-custom business in 2H 2016,” aligning nicely with the expected time frame of both the Nintendo NX and the upcoming Playstation Neo.
Though the evidence suggesting semiconductor production for the Nintendo NX is compelling, VR World was less forthcoming when it came to their source for the Tokyo Game Show NX launch. Still, the timing is certainly right, with this rumored system unveiling occurring approximately six months before the anticipated March 2017 Nintendo NX release date.
Though the Nintendo NX has yet to debut, the struggle for third-party support has already begun. Electronic Arts vice president Patrick Soderlund essentially snubbed the NX, indicating that no EA games would be available at launch when he told the BBC, “They will be there for the Nintendo NX if it makes sense.” Woof.
Meanwhile, Nintendo’s business development manager, Ed Valiente, made an appearance at DevGAMM in Russia. According to attendees of the closed-door presentation, Nintendo laid out security requirements for NX development kits, suggesting the system hardware has begun filtering out to game developers. Hopefully that means robust third-party support, despite EA’s tepid response to the system.
