Overwatch is nearing the conclusion of its second season already, but don’t worry too much. Season 3 will be starting up just one week after. Luckily for Americans, Season 2 will come to a close right before Thanksgiving dinner.
As posted on the official Battle.net forums by Overwatch’s principle designer, Scott Mercer, Season 2 of Overwatch will end on Nov. 24 at midnight UTC. To save you a click over to Google, that’s 7 p.m. EST on Nov. 23, just in time to force you to spend time with family for Thanksgiving. Season 3 of Overwatch will be starting up the next week, on Dec. 1. No time was given for the start date, but if it’s the same as the end of Season 2, that will actually be 7 p.m. EST on Nov. 30.
In case you were wondering about the changes coming in Season 3, Blizzard has already started talking about its plans. The biggest changes, according to this post, are related to a player’s Skill Ranking, or SR. The calculations for a player’s SR comes from their SR the previous season.
Season 3 will use a different way to calculate SR to ensure players will be put in competitive matches right from the get-go. The simple explanation is every player’s SR will be dropped a little lower than expected, and initial games will provide bigger boosts to SR than normal. After enough matches have been played, SR gains and losses will return to normal. This will allow better players to rise to the top faster, while allowing others to not be completely buried in the rankings.
So what do you think? Are you bummed to see Season 2 ending so soon? Are you curious to see how rankings will end up working for Season 3? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
