The latest trailer for Pokémon Sun and Moon has dropped, and with every new trailer comes an update to the official Pokémon website giving more information about the new region and Pokémon that were announced.
Today, new Alola Forms were introduced along with the Alola Regions’ Evil Team, Team Skull.
We’ve dug deep into the new information presented and came up with these interesting tidbits that most may have missed.
Team Skull Motivations
The Evil Team of Pokémon Sun and Moon is Team Skull , and while their looks seem to be more modern, their motivations are still very vague from the first snippets of information in August’s issue of CoroCoro and the latest trailer.
However, if you look closely you can see the Team Skull boss, Guzma, speaking to Professor Kukui.
The two seem to have a past, and Guzma tells Kukui that they are both rejects who couldn’t become captains.
The captains Guzma refers to are the Trial Captains your character will have to face in Sun and Moon . Perhaps Guzma formed Team Skull because he wasn’t in agreement with the region’s methods and hierarchy.
This is all speculation at the moment but it would be a change to the Evil Team formula from past games.
Alola Marowak’s typing
Alola Marowak is probably the most badass looking Alola Form in Sun and Moon so far, but it’s origins are still a head scratcher, especially with the Japanese trailer showing regular Kanto Cubone evolving into Alola Marowak. This is similar to how Exeggcute evolves to Alola Exeggutor.
But what makes Marowak different is it loses its primary typing and gains two new types. So how does this work?
According to the official Pokémon website , Marowak gains its typing because “there are many Grass-type Pokémon—Marowak’s natural enemies—in the Alola region. This makes Alola a harsh environment for Cubone and Marowak. As a result, they live in close union with their partners. It’s said that their great care for their partners allowed them to gain something like a sixth sense and resulted in their changed form.”
Reading in between the lines, it would seem that the Ghost typing is a result of some morbid means. Perhaps their partners pass away and the Marowak learned to contact the dead because of how close they were, making them the Ghost-type.
It’s not much of a stretch, considering how in Generation 1 part of the story involved a ghostly Marowak. The bonds of these Pokémon are indeed strong.
No One Knows Why Raichu Gained Psychic-Typing
Going from one Alola Pokémon to another, Alola Raichu joins Sun and Moon by adding a Psychic typing to its Electric typing. However, the other Alola Forms’ changes were explained (for the most part) but how does Alola Raichu gain psychic powers?
Here’s an excerpt from the Pokémon website:
“Even Pokémon researchers don’t know why Raichu’s form changed in the Alola region. The people of Alola seem unconcerned by the question. Their guess: maybe it ate too many sweet and fluffy round pancakes!”
Soooo no one knows? It’s possible that there is some native fruit that Pikachu of the Alola Region have learned to eat that let them gain psychic powers but right now it looks like Raichu stumbled upon a Devil Fruit.
Morelull Predicted By Chinese Leak
Morelull is the newest mushroom Pokémon and brings a unique Grass and Fairy typing. However, what’s important about this reveal is that it further validates that Chinese leak.
For those that still don’t know, a leak from the Chinese localization team appeared online showing off the starters’ final evolutions and new Alola forms.
But alongside those reveals, came the claim other new Pokémon will be introduced in Sun and Moon , including a snowman Pokémon, a dolphin and a sea cucumber Pokémon, which we got. It also claimed a new mushroom Pokémon was arriving and that is what we got in Morelull.
With every reveal/leak those rumors from China are becoming facts.
