PUBG announced that Vikendi is set to make a return in upcoming Update 7.1. However, it won’t be the same map that you remember as some changes and updates have been made. There’s also a new weapon to be introduced along with an update on the Survival Title System.
For a bit of a background, when PUBG launched Season 6, it put Vikendi on a short hiatus. The idea was to focus on Karakin. However, it didn’t mean that Vikendi was completely put behind the scenes. According to PUBG, they put a lot of work into making sure that Vikendi would have something new and special to offer. That said, these are the changes players should expect with the new version of Vikendi:
- Trains have been added and can be found moving along multiple tracks across Vikendi.
- There is a major train line that extends along the perimeter of Vikendi, with six connected tracks towards the inland areas of the island.
- Trains stop temporarily at train stations across the map.
- Reduced snow cover.
- Snow cover is reduced more on the Southern areas of the island.
- Snowbikes and Snowmobiles have been removed.
- Motorcycle and Motorcycle with sidecar spawns instead.
- These are considered more versatile vehicles for the updated terrain.
- Motorcycle and Motorcycle with sidecar spawns instead.
- Weather is either Clear or Snowy.
- Moonlight has been removed for now
- Expect it to return with visual improvements at a later date.
- General map optimizations have been made.
- Updated Vikendi can be played in custom matches.
- A new Cargo Depot has been added.
There’s no question that these changes are sure to make the battles even more fun and exciting.
“New” Weapon
Update 7.1 is also set to introduce a new weapon with the Mosin-Nagant. Well technically it’s a new weapon. We say that because this weapon has the same stats, attachments, and ammunition, among others, as that of the Kar98k. The only difference is that it has its own look and sound.
There is actually a reason for this. In a post, the team at PUBG revealed that while they understand the weapon choice is important to player, there is “the problem of there eventually being just too much choice, especially when a certain few weapons remain the most popular picks over everything else.”
Through the Mosin-Nagant, PUBG is testing out the idea of shared stat weapons. They how that this should “be able to give more weapon diversity without diminishing the availability of the weapons” that players love to use.
Meanwhile for the Survival Title System, it going to be shelved once Update 7.1 is live. This is to prepare for a new system in addition to the new Competitive Mode.
