After 20 years, Rocko’s Modern Life is returning to Nickelodeon by way of a television movie titled Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling.
The San Diego Comic-Con faithful were treated to an hour with the creator and cast of the series who are all returning to bring the crew back to O-Town after a 20-year trip into outer space. However, when they return not everything is how they left it.
Here’s the official synopsis for the upcoming television movie starring the Modern Life crew. You can check out the first clip from Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling below.
“Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling brings the characters back to Earth after being lost in outer space since 1996. Rocko has trouble accepting this 21 st century modern life, while Heffer and Filburt embrace every aspect of new technology, social media and the endless diversity of food trucks. Rocko whole-heartedly believes that his nostalgia for the past can save him from the tortures of the modern world. The TV special is slated to premiere on Nickelodeon in 2018.”
Again, the original voice cast for the series, Carlos Alazraqui (Rocko), Tom Kenny (Heffer), Doug Lawrence (Filburt) and Charlie Adler (Mr. Big Head and Mrs. Big Head), will all return while additional voice actors reprising their roles include: Linda Wallem (Nurse Jackie, executive producer) as Aunt Gretchen and Dr. Hutchinson; Jill Talley (SpongeBob SquarePants) as Nosey and Joe Murray as Ralph. New cast members include Steve Little (Adventure Time) as Cowboy and Cosmo Segurson as Pillow Salesman.
During the panel, Joe Murray the creator of Rocko’s Modern Life spoke about how he was approached by Nickelodeon to bring back Rocko and some of the difficulties of bringing back a show that’s been away for so long and how to do it justice.
And the cast and crew were excited to reunite on this project as it was like “getting the band back together.”
Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling will premiere on Nickelodeon in 2018.
