The new Rogue One trailer 2 reveals the family connection Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) has to the Death Star project and the Empire. It probably won’t have many surprises for anyone paying attention to every Star Wars drib and drab, but the new trailer for the first Star Wars Story dives into the plot more than ever. Jyn’s father, Galen (Mads Mikkelsen), is tangled up with the Empire in a major way. The Rebellion hopes Jyn can make contact with her father and prevent the Death Star from coming online.

Along the way a lot of people will talk about the abstract concept of hope.

Check out the second Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer for yourself:

While we all know the basic plot of Rogue One by now — a ragtag team of rebels steals the Death Star plans from under Darth Vader’s triangular snozz — the new trailer excels in revealing tiny details and exposing us to the ensemble surrounding Jyn Erso. There are some arresting images stuffed in these two minutes and 37 seconds. The sunken Jedi statue on Jedha. A Star Destroyer’s shadow falling over an entire city. An AT-ST in urban warfare scenarios unlike anything we’ve seen in Star Wars before.

And, of course, Darth Vader. It looks like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will also introduce Vader’s opposite, his Light Side shadow, as the new trailer reveals that Forest Whitaker’s character, Saw Gerrera, is just as devastated as Anakin Skywalker. While there was something obviously fishy about his giant, tin-can suit in the first Rogue One trailer, Trailer 2 shows that his feet are mechanical. This is a man who lost just as much as Vader, in service to the other side. Is he just as torn apart by bitterness and internal torment? We’ll see when Rogue One: A Star Wars Story comes out in theaters Dec. 15.
