Clues and teasers about the Samsung Galaxy S7 have been rolling in steadily all week. Yet another indication of the device’s imminent launch has surfaced. The Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are certified with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) as of Wednesday.
The FCC certifies on what connectivity bands each device will run. In particular, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge will be compatible with bands 2,4,5,7 and 13, supporting 4G as well as Bluetooth Class 1, Dual Band Wi-Fi, NFC and GPS.
The FCC filing does not give any other details about the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge; however, there are many rumors surrounding the devices. The smartphones are expected to feature a 5.2-inch Quad HD display (possibly a 5.7-inch display for the Galaxy S7 Edge), a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip or Exynos 8890 chip, depending on the market, 4GB of RAM and 32, 64 and 128GB internal storage options with expandable memory support, a 12.3-megapixel camera with f/1.7 aperture and a 5-megapixel front camera and Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow under Samsung’s TouchWiz interface. The device may also have a fingerprint scanner, and iris scanner and a ForceTouch component as its special features.
Samsung has confirmed it will host an Unpacked event Feb. 21 in Barcelona. Unpacked events are typically where new Galaxy smartphones are unveiled. However, the teaser Samsung recently shared suggests the manufacturer may announce something having to do with VR. That thing may be a 360-degree camera called the Samsung Gear 360.
Samsung host its press event on the same day rivals LG and Huawei are hosting press events. LG in particular confirmed Wednesday it will announce its LG G5 smartphone at its press event.
