The latest Galaxy Galaxy S8 rumors read as if they are circa 2013, with reports the device will release in a standalone event in New York City in April. Though Samsung has indicated its plans for the Galaxy S8 remain on schedule, reports from the Wall Street Journal have suggested the device may see a delayed launch. New reports out of Korea now back up these claims, revealing details from a Samsung global strategy meeting where an April launch in New York City was discussed.
Samsung’s last three early-year flagships, the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S5 have all been announced in the February to March timeframe at the Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona. Prior to that, Samsung has hosted its own device launches, which were not associated with larger events. The Galaxy S4, for example, launched in April 2013 at Radio City Music Hall.
While Samsung said it has concluded its internal investigation into the Galaxy Note 7 defects, early reports indicated Samsung’s rush to market was part of the reason the Galaxy Note 7 was ultimately flawed. The device had Samsung’s earliest launch to date and its short development cycle potentially lefts design issues with the device unchecked.
Some reports have also suggested Samsung would announce the Galaxy S8 early to make up for sales lost on the Galaxy Note 7. However, many pundits agree a later launch would cover the manufacturer from a safety standpoint as it attempts to rebuild its image.
There are many new rumors surrounding the Galaxy S8, including murmurs of a rear facing, optical fingerprint scanner and Bluetooth 5.0. At this time, no claims about the Galaxy S8 have been confirmed.
