Though Galaxy S8 development is currently delayed for at least two weeks while Samsung figures out the root cause of the Galaxy Note 7 defect, issues with the phablet won’t affect the release of the manufacturer’s upcoming smartphone.
Samsung officials told ET News the Galaxy S8 won’t release early to make up for the permanent discontinuation of the Galaxy Note 7, contrary to many rumors. In fact, Samsung has supposedly had a unique plan for the Galaxy S8 since its inception, far prior to the Galaxy Note 7 announcement. “Pushing [the Galaxy S8] release date forward all of sudden is something that is realistically impossible,” the official told the publication.
Samsung is known for releasing Galaxy S devices in February during Mobile World Congress. But now, the manufacturer’s release plans are unclear. However, there is a general consensus that there is a Galaxy S8 smartphone in development and that it will release in 2017.
Samsung has already announced plans for a compensation program, offering former Galaxy Note 7 owners the upcoming smartphone either for free or at a steep discount. The program is expected to be around for at least the next two Samsung flagships, which would be the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy Note 8.
Recent reports also reiterate that the Galaxy S8 may feature a 5.5-inch 4K resolution display and 6GB of RAM, among other features. The device may also adopt features from the Galaxy Note 7, including an iris scanner and the Blue Coral color options.
