The latest Galaxy S8 rumors suggest the smartphone may be announced alongside wireless in-ear headphones. This latest claim is interesting, considering other rumors indicate Samsung may do away with the 3.5mm headphone jack on the upcoming flagship.
The removable of headphone jacks on smartphones seems to be the new trend in the mobile space. Apple in particular made splash when it released the iPhone 7 with no audio jack in September. Apple argued it was time to do something different in the mobile space. Meanwhile, pundits note without a headphone jack, manufacturers can experiment with making devices thinner or adding other features, such as more secure water resistance.
Other Android devices with the new design include the Moto Z and Moto Z Force as well as some devices by Chinese manufacturer LeEco.
Apple also used this design change to promote a new product, its AirPods, which are completely wireless headphones. While the iPhone 7 ships with a pair of headphones with lightning support, the AirPods sell separately for $159. Critics have noted the headphones’ cost is quite pricey for components than can easily be lost.
Currently, there are no further details about the possibility of Samsung releasing wireless headphones with the Galaxy S8. There are many options for the manufacturer to execute this launch. It could bundle the Galaxy S8 with a pair of Bluetooth headphones that have no other functions but transmitting audio.
Perhaps Samsung could launch a A new model of its Icon X wireless headphones, which are wireless earbuds with on-board storage and a 1,000-song capacity. The ear buds retail for $199 and would likely continue to be sold separately.
