Aug. 2 will be all about the Galaxy Note 7 , but soon after, Samsung is expected to shift its focus slightly and showcase a new smartwatch. There have been a few rumors circulating about the Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch. SamMobile backed up reports Thursday that the Gear S3 may launch at the upcoming IFA expo in Berlin and may feature a rotating bezel and a classic desigm, similar to the Gear S2 smartwatch of 2015.
So far, older reports suggest the Gear S3 is codenamed “Solis.” Pundits wonder if the codename could allude to a feature having to do with light; however, there have been no details about special feature slated for the smartwatch.
Much like many of Samsung’s most recent smartwatches, the Gear S3 is expected to run Samsung’s Tizen operating system. The Gear S2 gained compatibility with Android devices in 2015, and rumors suggest the Gear S3 may introduced iOS compatibility , allowing users to control the wearable with an iPhone.
Model numbers for the Gear S3 leaked in mid-June, indicating there may be carrier models of the smartwatch offered by Verizon and Sprint. The Gear S2 includes a model with cellular ability; it would make sense that the Gear S2 also has such a feature.
One of the first rumors that surfaced for the Gear S3 was that Samsung was collaborating with Swiss watchmaker de Grisogono to create high-end models. Leaks surfaced in mid-June depicting a timepiece with a design similar to a Rolex watch that insiders claim is the Gear S3. This models of the Gear S3 may not launch until 2017.
