Samsung's replacement Note 7 units are still catching fire and the tech giant can't figure out why. On Monday, Samsung urged retailers to stop all Galaxy Note 7 sales. Samsung's decision follows a sales halt from major network carriers, including AT&T, Verizon and Australia's Telstra. Numerous airlines have banned the Note 7 as well.
"We are working with relevant regulatory bodies to investigate the recently reported cases involving the Galaxy Note7," Samsung announced. "Because consumers’ safety remains our top priority, Samsung will ask all carrier and retail partners globally to stop sales and exchanges of the Galaxy Note7 while the investigation is taking place.
"We remain committed to working diligently with appropriate regulatory authorities to take all necessary steps to resolve the situation. Consumers with either an original Galaxy Note7 or replacement Galaxy Note7 device should power down and stop using the device and take advantage of the remedies available."
According to Bloomberg, Samsung has suspended Galaxy Note 7 production. It is unclear how Samsung plans to resolve the issue, but reports suggest the Korean tech company may choose to abandon the Note 7 altogether.
“It’s meaningless to continue producing the Note 7," said Greg Roh, an analyst at HMC Investment Securities Co. in Seoul. “As for Galaxy S8, it is important for Samsung to release the product within schedule and shift its R&D focus to address safety concerns. Samsung needs to rebuild trust by updating the technology step by step.”
“If Samsung Electronics continues to harm its brand image with Galaxy Note 7, this can affect the entire Galaxy S Series,” warned Song Eun-jeong, IT hardware analyst at HI Investment & Securities Co.
