Samurai Shodown (2019) is arriving in the Xbox Series X/S on March 16. This is sure to be a treat to those who own the console, especially with 120 FPS. For those who already bought the game for Xbox One, they can immediately play it on the next-gen console without the need to buy a new version.
Samurai Shodown is one of those popular classic fighting games. The first one was released in 1993 and redefined fighting games, particularly weapon-based titles. A lot of games have been added to the franchise since then and if anything, it’s continuously evolved. The 2019 version is set between the first one and Samurai Shodown 5 and considered as a reboot of the franchise.
There’s no question that the new version has better visuals and sounds. To its credit though, it retains many of the classic gameplay mechanics like the Rage Gauge, Lightning Blade, and even Super Special Moves.
The game sees the return of 13 fan-favorite warriors like Hanzo Hattori, Jubei Yagyu, and Nakoruru. There are also new characters, such as Darli Dagger and Yashamaru Kurama. Joining the roster as well is Shizumaru Hisame of Samurai Shodown 3 with Gongsun Li of Honor of Kings also making an appearance.
Samurai Shodown has been releasing DLCs as well, which introduced new fighters to the game:
- Season Pass 1
- Rimururu
- Basara
- Kazuki Kazama
- Wan-Fu
- Season Pass 2
- Mina Majikina
- Sogetsu Kazama
- Iroha
- Warden
Season Pass 3 is scheduled for March too. Like the previous Season Pass, four new characters are going to be introduced with two recently revealed. These are Cham Cham and Hibiki Takane. Read more about them here.
Two game versions are set to roll out with the Standard Edition priced at $59.99. The Samurai Shodown Deluxe Edition, meanwhile, is priced at $79.99 and offers the Season Pass along with extra DLC goodies. Learn more about the Deluxe Edition here. Season Pass is priced at $19.99 each.
Samurai Shodown is also available for the PlayStation 4, Google Stadia, Nintendo Switch, and PC. An arcade version is available too but only open in Japan.
