Two new skulls have been added in the latest update for the roguelike action platformer Skul: The Hero Slayer.
Skulls in Skul: The Hero Slayer will turn the titular character into other famous warriors, unlocking new abilities and a fresh new look to boot. In Update 1.6, two new skulls are introduced.
The first skull is the infamous pirate, Davy Jones. This skull will give the titular character a huge cannon that fires up to four cannonballs at his opponents before reloading. A special cannonball is inserted after doing so, which not only deals damage as usual but also provides an additional effect depending on the ability that was used. Speaking of abilities, “Bombs Away” and “At the Ready” are quite overpowered because of the empowered mechanic. It will not be surprising if the developers release a patch to nerf them somehow.
Aside from Davy Jones, the new Mage skull is here as well. The Mage wields a wooden staff and utilizes mana to cast spells. This skull uses fire magic for offense, such as Fire Arrow, Explosion, Fireball, and Meteor Strike. If mana has been exhausted, the Mage can enter meditation by pressing the down and attack buttons simultaneously. In this state, the mana recovery speed is increased by a whopping 1,000%!
Update 1.6 also brings a fundamental change to status effect resistance on bosses. Players can now apply freeze or stun to bosses at any time in most cases. However, if the same status effect is applied consecutively, the status effect resistance increases gradually which weakens subsequent applications.
