Donald Trump is receiving ‘huuugeeee’ pushback in both the U.S. and across the seas after calling for a total ban on Muslims entering the United States. A petition to ban Trump from the UK under hate-speech law may make its way to the House of Commons if it gets 100,000 signatures. The German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung published an editorial called “How Donald Trump is betraying America.”
Back in the U.S., White House Press Secretary John Earnest publically denounced Trump by asserting his statements should disqualify him as a viable presidential candidate. He continued to say, “Any Republican who’s too fearful of the Republican base to admit it has no business serving as president either.”
Mayor Michael Nutter also wants to ban Trump from Philly streets. Nutter describes Trump’s proposal to ban all Muslims from the U.S. as “flat-out ignorant” and said, “We don’t have any room for that kind of stupidity here.”
Even J.K Rowling called out Trump comparing him to Lord Voldemort. “Voldemort is nowhere near as bad,” the author of Harry Potter expressed via tweet.
The associations haven't stopped with Lord Voldemort. A Star Wars parody video on the Auralnauts YouTube channel depicts Trump as Darth Vader.
Amazon CEO and owner of the Washington Post Jeff Bezoz offered on Twitter to do the American people a favor and send Donald Trump off to space on his Blue Origin rocket. We may all be on board with that if Trump gives Bill Gates a ring and somehow convinces him to “close the internet.”
Numerous posts across social media have also associated Trump with Adolf Hitler.
Isreali newspaper columnist Chemi Shalev wrote in the Haaretz, “For some Jews, the sight of thousands of supporters waiving their fists in anger as Trump incited against Muslims and urged a blanket ban on their entry to the U.S. could have evoked associations with beer halls in Munich a century ago.”
A ballsy comparison, but the leading GOP candidate doesn’t seem to mind the taste of his own medicine. When asked if he considers himself to be similar to Hitler, Trump responded “No” on Good Morning America.
New polls indicate Trump leads with approximately 30 percent of the primary vote in swing states New Hampshire and Iowa despite his incessantly dubious remarks. USA Today reports 68 percent of Trump supporters would still vote for him if he decides to run as an Independent. National poll data aggregated by the Huffington Post has Trump leading the GOP primaries with support from 34 percent of Republican voters.
