Supercell has upped its commitment to fair play its games with new Anti-Bullying measures. Check out what's changed, here.
Supercell has become a legend in mobile gaming for creating insanely successful multiplayer games like Clash of Clans, Clash Royale and their latest soft-launched game, Brawl Stars . But despite the hours of fun players have derived from these games, Supercell has seen room for improvement – particularly when it comes to reducing in-game bullying.
To show their commitment to squelching bullying inside their games, Supercell announced Wednesday an updated set of Fair Play and Code of Conduct policies. The goal of the new policies is to “provide a secure gameplay environment for everyone” said Supercell in a statement . In addition to the updated policies, Supercell has teamed up with The Diana Award , a charity that honors the late Princess of Wales.
The Diana Award seeks out ways to empower young people to use their voices to make an impact on the world around them. The organization actively seeks out opportunities to mentor and support students who want to make a difference in their neighborhoods, communities and the world. A substantial part of the organization's efforts go toward running an Anti-Bullying program that trains students to be Anti-Bullying ambassadors.
Supercell recently held a safety workshop where they invited students involved in The Diana Award project to be a part of their Youth Board. The Youth Board, along with popular YouTubers, brought their various perspectives to the workshop, sharing and discussing ideas for how to make Supercell’s gaming experience more secure. During the workshop, they created an Anti-Bullying video with tips for staying safe and secure while gaming.
“As someone who’s been bullied, it’s important to take action,” said Youth Board member, Hannah on the video clip.
The video offers five basic tips for a secure gameplay environment, which include:
· Tip #1 Guard your information - Don’t give out personal information, account information or passwords as these are often requested in an effort to compromise your account.
· Tip #2 Use The Report Feature - If you come across someone being overly negative or threatening, report them right away. Each of Supercell’s games has a “Report” feature in-game to make it easier. Just keep in mind, if you report someone who hasn’t done anything, you could find yourself getting banned instead.
· Tip #3 Take a Break - If you find yourself feeling upset, taking a break from the game is a good idea. “You usually play worse when you are upset,” says YouTuber Chief Pat, “so taking a break for a bit and then going back generally helps.”
· Tip #4 Think Before You Speak – If you wouldn’t say a thing to someone’s face, then you probably shouldn’t be saying it online either. Written words can be just as powerful as those face to face, so chat responsibly.
· Tip #5 Stand Up – If you see someone being bullied or harassed online, don’t be afraid to speak up. Sometime simply calling out an attacker can put a stop to bullying altogether. “If done in a respectful way, speaking up can be really effective,” says YouTuber Clash With Ash.
With the release of their updated Fair Play Policy, Supercell encourages all players to read and become familiar with the new terms. You can find the updated policies, here.
