Uncharted: The Lost Legacy will star Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross, but will our main man Nathan Drake be swinging by at all? No, according to Naughty Dog. The reason for this is because it just wasn’t working right.
“We entertained a few possible ideas around including Nate as a secondary character,” Naughty Dog writer Josh Scherr told the PlayStation blog. “But everything we did felt superfluous because we tied it all up with Uncharted 4.” Game Director Kurt Margenau really put the nail in the coffin, adding, “We’re not going to touch on Nathan Drake in this, at all.”
“You can sort of imagine Drake sitting on the couch playing Crash Bandicoot while Chloe and Nadine are off galavanting,” Scherr said.
Also in the interview, Naughty Dog mentioned the feel of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is meant to be more like the original Uncharted than any of the other games. “Beautiful, big landscapes to traverse and explore, that sense of a surprise around every corner,” Creative Director Shaun Escayg said. “We wanted to bring more of that back.”
Combat will also be a bit different from the previous Uncharted games, allowing players to tackle situations with more choices than ever before. “There are entire combat setups that you can skip, go around, or approach from any direction,” Margenau said. “It’s got a bigger, more organic feel, with more player choice and more stealth options.” One of those stealth options will be a silenced pistol, the first lethal stealth weapon in the Uncharted series.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is a standalone expansion, and will launch on PS4 later this year. No release dates have been mentioned yet.
