We get it Ubisoft, Watch Dogs 2 is all about Silicon Valley and the rise of the tech nerds, but the pretentious hipster trope is so overplayed.
The Watch Dogs 2 story trailer introduces a new cast of characters , including hackers named Sitara, Josh, Wrench and Horatio. They talk about the big bad wolf Dedsec and its new CTO Dushan Nemec.
That’s pronounced DO-SHAWN, but at first it sounds like DOUCHE-ON. Just keeping it real here, the name choice raises an eyebrow. Then you watch the trailer and see this guy is as pretentious as they come with his bad facial hair and yoga poses. Seriously, is Dushan supposed to be intimidating? He seems like the guy you’d roll your eyes at when his Tinder profile pops up on your phone.
Maybe Watch Dogs 2 will capitalize off the Mr. Robot hype enough to entice wannabe hackers into buying their game. After all, Ubisoft set the bar pretty low with Aiden Pearce in the first Watch Dogs . While the first game wasn’t terrible, the story left a lot of players disappointed and the hacking mechanics were repetitive.
Still, Marcus Holloway seems to be a bit more interesting than Pearce, from what Ubisoft has revealed so far. The game seems to have a more light-hearted tone with the San Francisco setting versus the doom-and-gloom of Chicago. However, there is at least one familiar face (T-Bone!) from Watch Dogs that will be welcomed by those who liked the first game.
